" ...a longstanding, well regarded, and
mainly 'non-professional' group of artists based in the
medieval Priory village of Cartmel, in the Lake District"
In 2014, the year of its 48th Annual Exhibition
On the doorstep of the village is the Lake District and the Furness Peninsula providing artists and visitors alike, with ever changing vistas from dramatic mountain top to rugged coastline and quiet harbour.
It is not suprising then that an Art Society was founded here in Cartmel in 1966 and continues to thrive today.
It is difficult to imagine a more inspiring place for artists. Our medieval village boasts a wonderful collection of old buildings, a magnificent Norman archway leading into a picture book village square, and the famous twelfth century Priory.

"Don't be an
'art critic' but paint, there lies salvation"

"Have no fear of perfection, you'll

- Salvador Dali
Many of you will know us from our Annual Exhibition in the village hall, for others this will be your first contact with our art society. But members, old friends or new we hope you enjoy browsing our website.
As always we love to hear from you with suggestions or queries whether they be about the society, a particular artist or indeed an individual painting.
